A Sweet Auto Appointment Feature In iOS4?

Right now the iPhone 4 is getting a ton of attention because of the supposed antenna issue. What I don’t see enough of is people focusing on the cool new features of the updated iOS.

Sure you’ve got folders which rock organizing apps. You’ve also got the multitasking which I’m so used to I feel cheated when I can’t do it on my iPad.

But I believe I’ve found a sweet new feature in iOS4 that is going to make our lives even easier.

The other day I got an e-mail that had some dates and times in it. When I looked at it the dates and times, they looked like hyperlinks.

So like any good geek I touched the hyperlinks, it then prompted me to create an event.
When I selected to create the event, it created a new appointment with the date and time listed in the e-mail.

Of course the geek in me had to test it again to make sure I wasn’t in some magical tech fantasy land, so I created a test e-mail:

Then I touched one of the hyperlinks and got the following:

When I tapped on Create Event, voila!

Check that out! It even included the subject line of the e-mail as the appointment name.

So you say, C’mon Chris. No one really writes e-mails that have the dates and times perfectly spelled out.

You’re right.

Cool thing is it still works. See!

Granted it can’t create the appointment as accurately, but it does.

I remember over ten years ago Microsoft showing off a potential new future feature for e-mails where it would intelligently take the information out of the e-mail and create appointments. It never appeared, but it looks like Apple has done it. Go Apple!

So that’s it! Sweet new feature on iOS4 for you to play around with over the holiday weekend.

Nuff’ said. Or in this case…shown.

A Post Only A Geek Could Love…Harry Potter & Real Estate

As my blog address implies I am a geek.

So this post on ActiveRain really caught my attention as one of the featured posts for the day.

Anna “Banana” Krutchen in Phoenix, Arizona gives some great examples as to how the curriculum at Hogwarts can be turned aroud and applied to REALTORS®.

A nice, short and entertaining post and one I recommend taking a couple of minutes out of your day to read. So while you’re drinking your 2nd or perhaps 3rd cup of coffee for the day, click HERE to give the post a read.

Dork vs. Nerd. vs. Geek

I was having a conversation with someone yesterday (actually more a Facebook chat) defining what the differences were between a dork, a nerd and a geek.

Like any good researcher I turned to Wikipedia for the answer….

DORKUSA pejorative slang for a quirky, silly and/or stupid, socially inept person, or one who is out of touch with contemporary trends. Often confused with nerd and geek, but does not imply the same intelligence level.

NERD is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers or will tend to associate with like-minded people.

GEEKThe word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as “a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc.

I personally prefer to use the word “eccentric” and not “odd” but the rest of it pretty much describes me. 🙂

I also like to think of myself as a geek with a little bit more of a personality and higher social skills than usual.

Use A Computer – The Game Show

I ran across this one during my many travels on the Internet and it was too good to not share with everyone.

Those that know me know that I don’t make fun of, or look down on those who aren’t as tech savvy.

This one though is a good-natured ribbing at those who have as yet to master the ever evolving computer.

Smart Ass Geek

Today I went to get my lunch and found the following in the fridge here at work.

Now, I totally dig Robert (our Deputy Chief Economist) and he?s the greatest guy in the world…one of the nicest guys I know. However the smart ass in me had to take the following picture…

Of course I e-mailed him the picture using my handy dandy Blackberry with the message-“I touched your root beer…what ya gonna do about it numbers boy”

Robert took it in good stride, shooting back with:”All I can say is, you’ll have to answer to Alma. She put the root beer in the ref for me and added the sign just to scare away scofflaws like
you. I guess she should have put a skull and crossbones on the sign as

You don’t want to mess with her because ‘The Force’ is definitely with
her, so we’ll overlook your transgression….this time. Next time…we
might just have to find a bottle opener and force you to drink some.

Here’s hoping everyone has a great weekend and a very “Happy Father’s Day” to all the fathers out there, especially my Dad, my fiancee?s brother-in-law John, and my future father-in-laws Roy and Earl.

I’ll be spending Father’s Day with my wonderful son Josh watching ?Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull for the 3rd time. I’d actually rather see “The Incredible Hulk” but Josh has been waiting to see Indy and for those of you that have seen it, it’s a father-son flick. The important thing is I’ll be enjoying it with my son. That night Shelley is taking me to Benihana’s….yum..yum! Till Monday!
